QLD Q: Can committee members vote in matters of conflict of interest. If not, can you point me to the relevant legislation? We have a committee member who voted at a VOC in favour of a motion that netted him $7000.
ACT Q: As a unit owner in an apartment building in Canberra, am I permitted to attend or "sit in" on an EC meeting to observe? I don't have confidence in the minutes that are released.
NSW Q: I stay overnight a few times a week at a friends apartment and park in visitor parking. I've received notes threatening to clamp my car. Can they do this?
SA: I chose to attend the AGM personally rather than online. I was told the AGM will be held at the strata manager's office. My understanding of the bylaws is that meetings should be located in an area suited to the client. Is this correct?
NSW: Resident car washing creates unsafe wet areas. Residents sometime use electricity in these areas to vacuum their cars. Is the body corporate responsible if this results in injury?
NSW: In our small strata some units were allowed to enclose their balconies. Now, when residents wash their windows etc, the water flows onto the enclosed balcony windows below. Our meeting minutes show years of rising tensions. How do we overcome this?
QLD Q: Our treasurer is the go-to person that organises the work around our building. How do I find out if he has assumed this position or if he was elected?
The NSW Government is working to increase confidence in our building industry. They are creating a new foundation for construction by looking at how they can improve laws, better protect consumers and support workers.
