Question: Our committee is aware of safety hazards and incidences have occurred but they refuse to spend money to fix these items. What can be done when the committee won’t spend on necessary maintenance?
Question: On my secluded rooftop deck I have a fire pit. A lot owner has put forward a motion to ban all forms of naked flames. Would a bylaw banning naked flames be lawful, especially when this is an exclusive use area?
Question: Our roof is leaking and is in need of repair. In a detached unit on a strata title in Victoria, can the responsibility for the repair be shifted to the lot owner if the repair benefits only one lot?
Question: Have any strata corporations in SA banned smoking on the balcony? If not, are you aware of any by-laws that specifically mention smoke drift in its bylaws?
Question: I have bought into a Scheme, and the seller had a fence that breaches the by-laws. I haven’t rectified the breach. Am I now breaching the by-laws?
Question: A new owner has just purchased a unit and moved tenants into the property. The lot owner refuses to recognise their tenants need to follow strata rules and they also refuse to pay strata levies. What can we do?

Have your say on barriers to installing sustainability infrastructure for apartments, townhouses and villas in NSW
The NSW Government invites you to participate in an online survey to share your views and experiences about installing sustainability infrastructure in your building.
By ‘sustainability infrastructure’, we mean solar panels, batteries, smart meters, efficient hot water systems, electric vehicle charging stations and other emerging energy innovations (such as energy management services).
The survey takes 10-15 minutes and will assist the NSW Government to better understand the best ways to remove barriers for owners, tenants and owners corporations wanting to install sustainability infrastructure. Survey closing 11.59 pm, Sun 9August. Find out more via this flyer.
By completing it you will be entered into a prize draw for an iPad Air 64GB valued at $779, to be held on the 17th August 2020.
NAT: SCA COVID-19 Strata Pulse Survey
COVID-19 has changed the way we work and do business. One significant change for the strata management sector has been the way committee meetings are organised, with many committee meetings now being offered flexibly or online via teleconference.
SCA is trying to gather information about the number of organisations undertaking online committee meetings, their effectiveness, lot owner experiences and the future of flexible, online meetings.
This information will aid our understanding of the sector’s response to COVID-19 and aid our advocacy efforts and we would welcome your valuable input.
Please take the short 3-minute survey today!
